Cheapest Way to Get to MalPais
It is not very difficult to go to MalPais from any country in the world. Costa Rica is very popular now. For vacation celebrations, Costa Rica is quite popular with people all over the world. More tourists come here from America and Europe. MalPais is a very popular place in Costa Rica. A little secluded, a little away from the locality just like everyone’s mind made. The easiest way to get to MalPais is to fly into San Jose International Airport. But getting to this part of the country is always a bit difficult because of the roads. There is no straight road across the coast. The most popular way to get to Puntarenas is by ferry.
By Ferry:
The easiest way to get to MalPais is the Puntarenas to Paquera ferry. Those areas of the Nicoya Peninsula are also easily accessible by ferry from Puntarenas. You can go to Puntarenas by any means of choice like bus/ferry. Then you can drive, a taxi or bus from Paquera dock to Mal Pais. We have all kinds of arrangements. Here one can move very safely. From San Jose:
Mal Pais can be reached either way from San Jose. However, bus journeys are not that popular for tourists here due to poor road conditions. There are direct buses from San Jose to Mal Pais. Direct buses are available daily at 6 AM and 2 PM. Buses are very safe but not very comfortable. This bus goes from San Jose to Santa Teresa. It leaves San Jose at Ave 7 pm.
This bus has fixed fares for adults and surfboards. It costs about 7000 colones for adults and 2000 colones for a surfboard. This route goes by ferry and includes a ferry ticket price of 810 colones per adult. Leaving Santa Teresa at 6 AM. Tourists can easily reach the city by morning bus. There is an afternoon bus at 2:30 pm but only from Cobano. So you must first take a bus to Cobano and from there to Mal Pais.
From Guanacaste: Tourists can take a bus from Liberia, Liberia to Puntarenas. You can also go by ferry. Then you can go to MalPais by bus/taxi.

From San Jose and Guanacaste: From San Jose and Guanacaste, you can drive to Puntarenas or take a ferry to MalPais.

On the other hand, if you want to take a private shuttle, it will cost around $300-350 USD. San Jose takes at least 6-8 hours depending on traffic, so it’s a long drive. In this case, the journey is one way. If traveling from Montezuma by ferry, there is a shared shuttle to Santa Teresa. The cost is $10 USD per person per day. Weather
The Mal Pais area has a typical tropical climate throughout with dry and monsoon seasons. Here from the beginning of December to the end of April is known as the dry season. The rainy season is from the beginning of May to the end of December. Average temperatures during the dry season hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures are in the high 80s during monsoons. It rains for the whole two months of October and November. The driest season is January-April.
During the dry season all the rivers dry up and the region becomes incredibly dusty. The roads here are very narrow and unpaved. February is so hot and dry that you can feel it while breathing.
